OVERVIEW

Alex is a dedicated advocate with experience handling contentious civil and public law matters to fruition. He brings a commonsense approach to his legal practice which focuses on construction disputes and general litigation.

Prior to joining Goodfellow & Schuettlaw, Alex worked as a Criminal Defence Lawyer in Edmonton where he appeared regularly in the Alberta Court of Justice and Court of King's Bench regarding a variety of offences under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and the Traffic Safety Act. He has also appeared before SafeRoads Alberta. His success in the criminal courtroom has served him well in returning to contentious civil matters.

Upon qualifying as a lawyer in Alberta, Alex’s practice focused primarily on contested estate matters, as well as employment disputes and landlord-tenant disputes. Alex has enjoyed a diverse exposure to legal practice as a junior lawyer providing a well-rounded foundation in the profession.

Alex was born in the United Kingdom and moved to Canada during his childhood. Before returning to his home country to attend law school, he enjoyed a career negotiating commercial agreements and managing bids and tenders in Alberta’s energy industry. Here, he learned how to efficiently manage and allocate risk pertaining to scope of work, supply chain, insurance, and liability. His industry experience developed a business acumen that continues to frame his legal practice today.

While attending law school, Alex served as an Associate Editor of the Exeter Law Review and completed a legal internship in Geneva, Switzerland offering research support on private international law matters.

In his spare time, Alex can be found on the squash court, on the hiking and cross-country skiing trails of Kananaskis, or in the kitchen embarking on his latest culinary adventure.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
