OVERVIEW

Mr. Goodfellow is a highly-regarded litigator and arbitrator conducting a construction law practice that has spanned more than 50 years.

He has represented businesses and individuals in the construction industry in nearly every province and has developed rare expertise not only from his experience, but also from interactions within his extensive network of Canadian legal professionals. Mr. Goodfellow was Counsel for the M.J.B. Enterprises Ltd. - which was the successful party - before the Supreme Court of Canada in establishing the landmark decision as to the obligation of those who call for tenders. Mr. Goodfellow has had other cases before the Supreme Court of Canada involving construction matters.

 

Mr. Goodfellow has published and presented numerous papers and articles on matters related to Alberta Builders’ Lien Act, the tendering process, and arbitration throughout his 54-year practice. He has contributed time and expertise to professional associations including the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers. He has provided expert testimony and has made significant contributions to legal education in Canada. He has served as a member and was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Legal Education Society of Alberta.

 

In addition to Mr. Goodfellow’s extensive professional contributions, he has been very active in the community since moving to Calgary in 1964. He was President of two Kiwanis clubs, became Lieutenant Governor and then Governor of the Western Canada District of Kiwanis International. As President of the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada, he founded the Understand Canada Program. Mr. Goodfellow served as Trustee both at the Kiwanis International Foundation and its governing body. For the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival, Mr. Goodfellow served as President. He was also President of the Alberta Music Festival Association and the Canadian Musical Festivals. He was member of the Board of Directors of the First National Competitive Festival of Music. 

 

Mr. Goodfellow is a Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the HoIy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, which was founded by the Vatican in the 12th Century. Membership is by invitation only and by approval of the Vatican.

 

He and his wife of 55 years have raised a family of one daughter and five grandchildren.
